In late 2018, Steve Bannon, previously a top aide to Donald Trump, was in the UK to deliver a speech at the Oxford Union.

The event was interrupted by hundreds of protesters, and Bannon, who was due to board a flight that evening, informed Jeffrey Epstein in an message: "Activists slowed down speech I doubt I can make the flight we are heading to the airport".

Epstein replied: "There. Is a gulf air departing at 950 with a stop in Bahrain". Bannon answered: "U r an excellent assistant".

These messages were released on Wednesday together with more than 20,000 pages from the records of Epstein, the late convicted sex offender.

The disclosure by the House oversight committee includes an text conversation where Bannon's identity is withheld. The BBC managed to establish his involvement by matching the timeline, occurrences, and locations mentioned.

For instance, Epstein talks about chartering a jet from the UK for the redacted user in the chat, and offers praise their "address at Oxford". Bannon took part in the News Xchange conference on 14 November, and delivered the talk at the Oxford Union two days later.

Bannon, who faces no allegations of any wrongdoing, did not reply on the inquiry.

'I'll make sure you're well looked after'

Bannon was one of the president's key aides in the run up to the 2016 election and in the early days of his first administration, but stepped down from the White House in August 2017.

He has acknowledged he was making a documentary about Epstein prior to his passing and allegedly has around 15 hours of footage. In a live taping of his podcast earlier this year, he said: "We're going to release the series, the multi-part documentary, in the coming year - early next year."

But the recently disclosed materials suggest Bannon's relationship with Epstein went further than being his biographer, with the disgraced financier at times seeming to act like a aide.

A short time prior to the conversation in which Epstein seemed to arranged a charter jet for Bannon, Epstein remarked: "how does it feel to have the highest-paid travel agent in the world ".

Bannon thanked him: "You are quite capable asst", to which Epstein replied "Massages. Not Included".

Discussing a trip to "AD" in a separate text, Epstein told Bannon: "I'll make sure you're taken care of."

UK Politics Discussed in Messages

The published messages also reveal Bannon and Epstein discussing British political matters in 2018.

On the same day his speech at the Oxford Union, Bannon messaged Epstein: "I've gotten pulled into the Brexit thing this morning with Nigel, Johnson and Mogg."

Then, in what seems like a allusion to the UK prime minister, the struggling UK prime minister at the time, he continued: "The guys are attempting to proceed. may today / tomorrow…"

Epstein suggested Bannon: "I think remaining as much as you can in the UK. Ideal- so people see the commitment of your follow-up."

Shortly after, Epstein asked: "Will Theresa may survive". Bannon answered: "It seems unlikely BUT the people over here have little courage" and noted "Johnson ; Gove; Rees Mogg; David Davis - someone has to step up".

May was finally removed in 2019 after surviving two votes of no confidence in late 2018.

A representative for the political party informed the BBC: "Nigel Farage has not been in a gathering with Bannon, Rees-Mogg and Johnson." And there is no evidence such a meeting occurred.

The US House of Representatives will decide next week on whether the Department of Justice should release all its files related to its investigation into Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.

Attention in Epstein's associations with influential individuals was renewed recently after the publication of over 20,000 pages from his estate.

Some of those mentioned the former president, who has consistently rejected any wrongdoing. The leader was a acquaintance of Epstein's for years, but says they fell out in the 2000s, a couple of years before Epstein was initially charged.
