A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid period, managing just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's initial trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, taking four of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent saved four initial opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
