2K Hires Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Change Follows Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Team—
I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Last time I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the necessity for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on next week.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming field is extensive, having dedicated the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.
I invite you all in greeting Ben in the coming days. We are all excited to continue seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to ahead.
David

He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Title Details and Vision
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary reads. "Take on the rivals with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that shift every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Or go big, put it on the line, and pray your group can secure victory? The choice is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can look forward to more updates as development progresses.
